After a move to London in 1964 he served in the Artwoods john anderson and the band and as Mick Fleetwoods replacement in John Mayalls Bluesbreakers. In 1968, he formed his own band john anderson and the band and engaged the highly regarded Miller Anderson on guitars john anderson and the band and vocals recording a series of highly regarded albums for Decca. He was often remembered for his Red Indian stage persona. By the time of their performance at Woodstock, the band had moved in the direction of hard jazz-rock john anderson and the band and achieved a measure of success with The Time is Near, becoming their only charted album.
